OVERVIEW

Seventy scholars, government officials, and non-government organisations from 20 ASEM countries attended this event. The main topics discussed were:

- Globalisation and regional responses

- Political and cultural aspects of globalisation

- Economic and social aspects of globalisation

- Globalisation and the ASEM process

The discussions generated a forthright and dynamic exchange of views, resulting in a new network of Asians and Europeans interested in the area of globalisation. It also encouraged the Asian and European participants to embark on a common search for solutions to some of the often-controversial areas connected to globalisation in Asian and European countries.
