11th ASEF Journalists’ Seminar: Shaping Public Perceptions and Minds towards Achieving the SDGs

11th ASEF Journalists' Seminar

The 11th ASEF Journalists’ Seminar is a continuation of the ASEF Journalists’ Colloquium series. It will be organised in conjunction with the 13th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM FMM13) in 2017 in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

The theme for the 11th ASEF Journalists’ Seminar is “Shaping Public Perceptions on Poverty Alleviation”. Poverty alleviation for sustainable development, at national and regional levels, is one of the highest priorities for many ASEM countries. It is timely to acknowledge and assess the role of mainstream and alternative media in this global effort. It will be an opportunity for journalists and media commentators to better understand ground realities and policy interventions. They can discuss how to engage policy-makers and civil society, manage expectations of publishers and editors, pitch “poverty” stories, and share essential knowledge and skills to better communicate stories for greater impact.

A 3rd ASEF Media Handbook will be produced to document the discussions. It will serve as a practical reference on poverty reporting for journalists from ASEM countries.
