The Alliance is an International Non-Governmental Youth Organisation (INGYO), a cooperative network of independent, national organisations working together on the quality and development of International Voluntary Service. Our aims are to promote better cooperation among our members and to develop common standards and best practice activities for the benefit of volunteers and local partners.
The Alliance was founded in 1982 and since then the number of its members has significantly risen from 6 to 50 from 30 countries worldwide.
Our member and partner organisations promote community development, intercultural understanding and peace through non-formal learning, the implementation of international voluntary service projects and the exchange of about 20.000 volunteers per year. All projects provide resources and support to local communities, giving at the same time individuals from diverse backgrounds and all ages the opportunity to meet and live an intercultural experience. We consider volunteering as a powerful tool to enhance participation, intercultural dialogue and inclusion.
The Alliance is partner of many regional and worldwide networks and institutions dedicated to Youth and Volunteering.
