The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is the think tank of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Located in Tokyo, ADBI was established in 1997 to identify effective development strategies and to improve development management in ADB’s developing member countries.

ADBI is a leading center for the creation and dissemination of information and knowledge on development in Asia and the Pacific. Under the overarching goal of poverty reduction, ADBI’s three strategic priority themes are inclusive and sustainable growth, regional cooperation and integration, and governance for policies and institutions.

ADBI carries out research on development issues with strategic implications for development thinking and policy formulation. It publishes books and papers to strengthen policymaking in the Asia and Pacific region and hosts seminars and presentations by distinguished experts and scholars, including Nobel prizewinners. ADBI’s capacity building and training activities support mid and senior-level officials in ADB’s developing member countries to identify and effectively implement appropriate policies.
