Bertelsmann Stiftung, Gütersloh

The Bertelsmann Stiftung (BST) is the largest private operating foundation in Germany. BST was founded by Reinhard Mohn in 1977 and focuses on areas such as economy, education, health care, civil society and culture. The Bertelsmann Stiftung is independent and non-partisan. It is both a think tank and an agent for social change. Its work is based on the conviction that competition and civic engagement are essential for social progress.

With its offices in Washington and Brussels, the Bertelsmann Stiftung has begun providing a targeted international framework for its ongoing project work. The offices located outside of Germany are dedicated to promoting knowledge transfer and creating new local networks. In January 2012, the Bertelsmann Stiftung established the project “Germany and Asia” in order to foster cooperation, dialogue and exchange between Asia and Europe.
