The Luang Prabang Film Festival (LPFF) is a celebration of Southeast Asian cinema held every December in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang, Laos. A not-for-profit project, LPFF works to promote the Southeast Asian film industries, with an additional aim of educating Lao people about film as a means of cultural expression and communication. LPFF is one of the largest annual events in Laos, and every single one of its screenings and activities is free and open to the public. Thus, the festival averages over 22,000 visitors to the six-day event. LPFF is one of the most important spaces for creative exchange in Southeast Asia, bringing together filmmakers from diverse backgrounds and at different stages within their careers.
