The world is absurd, and it is time to accept that the only way to meet it honestly is to delve into its absurdity<\/strong>. This performance follows a to-do list: a sequence of directions, a way of moving from A to B without knowing exactly where we are going. In something like a waiting room, a fish swims in its own puddle. A clock loses track of time. Two performers make a series of promises around the phrase \u201cI\u2019m going to\u2014\u201d. Within this choreographic and linguistic game, they become disoriented. Voices turn into calls. Gradually, the work evokes the deep sea as a space of resonance, ecological grief, and collective listening<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

At its core, The Bench<\/i><\/strong> ruminates on loneliness and isolation<\/strong> within urban societies obsessed with productivity and progress<\/strong>. Rather than offering solutions, the performance proposes something else: slowing down, getting lost, resting, and listening as forms of resistance<\/strong>. Following their autobiographical performance-installation last portrait<\/i> (2024),\u00a0<\/strong>developed with the support of the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival Residency Programme 2024\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>and performed in Italy<\/strong> and Singapore<\/strong> at AECFest 2024<\/a>,\u00a0 ashleyho+domeniknaue<\/strong> return with the premiere <\/strong>of their latest work. Artistically, the work emerges at the intersection of choreography, writing, sound, graphic, and object design<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>

This is their contemplation on purpose<\/strong> from the perspective of a generation attempting to build a future amidst frightening \u201cprogress\u201d or collapse. It points to the reality that, more than ever, our futures are deeply entangled<\/strong>. The Bench<\/i><\/strong> is where we met, and where we will meet again. It is an exploration of humour, and of saving ourselves through imagination.\u00a0<\/p>

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tashleyho+domeniknaue is a collection of limbs and hearts. We create transmedial performative encounters at the intersection of dance, poetry, graphic design, sound, and scenographic experiments. They are Ho Yuhan Ashley (b. 1999, Singapore) and Domenik Naue (b. 1998, Germany). They believe in performance as a prefigurative practice, a political and intimate process of transforming and being transformed. Rather than focusing on specific themes, our processes propose a way of being in the world that confronts its harshness through vulnerability and playfulness. The urgencies of moving through a grieving, fighting world guide our conversations. In this vein, ecological concerns play a defining role in our artistic choices, not as an afterthought. \nOur practice manifests as stage performances, site-specific work, installations, film, and print documents. Our collaboration has been nurtured by friendship since 2019. We graduated from the Dancer\/Maker Bachelor's programme at ArtEZ University of the Arts in 2022, and are based in Amsterdam. From 2024\u20132026, ashleyho+domeniknaue receive the Nieuwe Makers Regeling from Fund Performing Arts NL, in partnership with Dansateliers and SPRING Performing Arts Festival.
