THE ASIA-EUROPE CULTURAL FESTIVAL TITLED 'CULTURES CONNECT' TOOK PLACE ON 26 & 27 NOVEMBER 2022 AT THE CENTRE FOR FINE ARTS-BOZAR IN BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The title of the festival,\u00a0Cultures Connect<\/em>, is embodied in ASEF’s work as the organisation continues to support enhanced\u00a0cultural connections between the peoples of Asia and Europe. Presenting film, dance, music, and dialogue,\u00a0the festival is a\u00a0platform for continued exchange\u00a0and cooperation.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

Amb. Toru MORIKAWA,\u00a0<\/strong>Executive Director – ASEF,\u00a0Amb. Nong Sakal, Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the EU, and Mr Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service (EEAS) joined the opening of the festival.<\/p>

On the first night, the festival hosted the\u00a0avant premiere\u00a0<\/strong>of the documentary film\u00a0<\/strong>The Perfect Motion<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0traces the creation of a production by Cambodia\u2019s royal dancers called \u201cMetamorphosis\u201d and the history of the Royal Ballet since 1906.\u00a0Infused with a sacred and symbolic role, the Royal Ballet dance form from Cambodia\u00a0embodies the traditional values of refinement, respect and spirituality. Bringing Asian and European perspectives together, the\u00a0film underscores the importance of appreciation for different cultures and celebrates the resilience of artists who firmly believed in their artistic expression.\u00a0Xavier de Lauzanne, Filmmaker\u00a0<\/strong>along with\u00a0HRH Prince Tesso Sisowath<\/strong>, who was the\u00a0Advisor\u00a0<\/strong>for the development of the\u00a0film, joined the screening and participated in a lively discussion with the audience.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

On 27 November the\u00a0public forum,\u00a0What Future for Arts Festivals?,<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>brought together\u00a0leading practitioners from Indonesia, Italy, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland.<\/strong>\u00a0Festivals have been a powerful force in encouraging international artistic endeavours, showcasing cross-border cultural expressions, and fostering creative dialogues.\u00a0Yet, today,\u00a0arts festivals stand at a crossroad. In a post-pandemic world, they are faced with unprecedented social and economic challenges<\/strong>. What is\u00a0the future of arts festivals as we look ahead? In the current landscape \u2013 one that will be defined by economic constraints, the continuing climate crisis, and structural inequalities \u2013 questions of equity, inclusion, responsibility and empathy arise. How will festivals adapt and cope with these altered circumstances? What responsibility do festivals have towards the environment?\u00a0Festivals are challenged to change, perhaps for the better, and to re-examine their mission and their value, rework their systems of operation, and think outside the box.\u00a0<\/p>

The festival closed with the\u00a0dynamic duo from Spain,\u00a0Vignesh Melwani<\/strong>, singer-musician, and\u00a0Carla Gonz\u00e1lez Ferrer<\/strong>, a singer-musician, who performed a free form improvisation piece\u00a0with influence of diverse musical genres.\u00a0Improvisuals<\/em>\u00a0is a\u00a0unique piece of performance<\/strong>\u00a0created with minimal and transcendental music blending influences from Indian classical to western classical, jazz, pop and Catalan music.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
