On 7 July 2016, the ASEF Outlook Report 2016/2017, CONNECTIVITY: Facts and Perspectives was successfully launched in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The launch commenced with opening remarks from H.E. Lundeg PUREVSUREN, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Ambassador ZHANG Yan, Executive Director at ASEF, and Mr Munkhbat AYUSH, President of the Mongolian Youth Federation.
Following the opening session, a panel discussion, consisting of 5 panellists, was held on the topic “20 Years of ASEM: Partnership for the Future through Connectivity”. Ambassador Luvsantseren ORGIL, ASEM Senior Official for Mongolia, and Mr Marco FERRI, Minister Counsellor of the Political Section at the Delegation of the European Union to China, discussed the main achievements of ASEM over the last 20 years. Subsequently, Ms Rebecca STETTER, Project Coordinator of the ASEF Outlook Report, revealed some key facts and figures, as well as major trends in Asia-Europe connectivity based on the ASEF Outlook Report 2016/2017.
Dr Katharina HOENE, Trainer and Lecturer at DiploFoundation, proceeded to present the main findings of DiploFoundation’s chapter on how diplomacy can strengthen Asia-Europe’s digital connectivity. Lastly, Dr Yu FEI, representative of the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN), shared his experience on how his engagement with ASEF and ASEM education activities changed his perception of Asia and Europe. The floor was then opened to questions from the audience by Ms Leonie NAGARAJAN, Director of the Education Department at ASEF, who moderated the panel discussion.
Approximately 300 people attended the launch, including students from the 7th Model ASEM, representatives from local embassies, civil society organisations and international organisations.
