A significant meeting took place on 15 March 2024 between a delegation representing the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan (MOFA-Asia-Europe Cooperation Division), Embassy of Japan in Philippines and Dr Saia Ma’u Piukala the newly appointed WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific.
During this meeting, all parties recognized the ongoing strong partnership for nearly 15 years, particularly under the Stockpile of Antiviral Project. This collaboration was acknowledged for its positive impact, especially amidst challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, benefitting ASEF members greatly.
ASEF emphasized the importance of the continuation of the partnership and re-iterated its commitment to support the healthcare landscape in the region through its projects. Additionally, ASEF and MOFA Japan expressed their interest in forging a new partnership particularly in the realm of pandemic preparedness and response.
The meeting underscored importance of strong partnership and collective efforts in addressing healthcare challenges, reaffirming ASEF and MOFA’s commitment and potential new partnerships.
