Three projects from a pool of 75 proposals have been selected for support in 2016, through the fifth edition of Creative Encounters:
1) Asiatopia 2016
Performing arts festival with a focus on documenting oral histories of artists in relation to the contribution of artists & creativity to the social fabric of their respective communities. Project partners include Concrete House (Thailand), Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (Thailand) and University of the Arts Helsinki (Finland).
2) Lila: Samdani Seminars 2016, Pawel Althamer and the Neighbours
A series of workshops with Asian & European artists focusing on marginalised communities in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Project partners include Samdani Art Foundation (Bangladesh), Polish Institute, New Delhi (India), Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (Poland), Brodno Sculpture Park (Poland), Foksal Gallery Foundation, Warsaw (Poland), Protisruti, The Promise, Institute of Drug Rehabilitation (Bangladesh).
3) Ulaanbaatar Media Art Festival
An arts festival with focus on film, new media, photography, sound and fashion in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Participating artists from Asia and Europe will address in particular questions of urban versus nomadic civilisation, tradition & modernity and gender inequality. Project partners include Arts Council of Mongolia, Academy of Media Arts Cologne (Germany) and Ministry of Culture and Communication, France.
