The 5th ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory (ASEFInnoLab5) opened its virtual phase on 02 May 2024, welcoming an exceptional cohort of 100 participants from 33 countries in Asia and Europe!
Participants were welcomed into the programme by Ms Reka TOZSA, Director of the ASEF Education Department, and Prof SHEN Yi, Director of the International Institution of Global Cyberspace Governance, Fudan University. Prof CHEN Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University, delivered a keynote on “AI for Science,” which was followed by a keynote on “Universities’ Role in AI Innovation Ecosystems” from Prof John SHAWE-TAYLOR, UNESCO Chair on AI and Director, International Research Centre for AI under the auspices of UNESCO.
Our participants also had the opportunity to meet new peers and share their reflections on these keynote messages through group discussions, courtesy of our facilitators from the Riga Technical University Dr Claudio RIVERA, Dean of the Riga Business School; and Dr Paula ELKSNE, Director of the RBS Education Innovation Lab.
ASEFInnoLab5 is a 9-week experiential learning and networking programme targeted for university managers, researchers, and educators involved in AI-related initiatives. The programme just concluded its Self-Learning Phase, where participants learned from esteemed speakers on topics related to AI Governance, AI in Education, and AI for Sustainable Development. Now entering its Team Learning Phase, participants are preparing to team up and later on work on a position paper on topics related to the ASEFInnoLab5’s subthemes. After the virtual programme, select outstanding participants will be invited to join the onsite segment in Shanghai, China in October 2024 to be hosted by Fudan University.
