ASEFUAN 2011 Executive Committee Members

With the AGM in Amsterdam, another exciting year for ASEFUAN’s executive committee has concluded while a new one has begun. ASEFUAN’s former President Krizna Gomez from the Philippines handed over her responsibilities to this year’s newly elected President Pim van Loon from the Netherlands. The new executive committee consists of the following:

Pim van Loon (Netherlands, AU15)

Pim van Loon, a Dutch national, studied International Relations at the University of Amsterdam. He conducted part of his studies at the Hong Kong University and he was an associate at the Global Policy Forum, a research oriented NGO based in New York City. After his studies Pim entered the Dutch National Government where he has worked for the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2009 Pim participated in the 15th ASEF University (AU15) at the Woosuk University in Korea. Since then, Pim has been an active member of ASEFUAN.    

Catherine Frideres (Philippines, AU2)

Cathy has an undergraduate degree in European Studies from De La Salle University and an M.A. in International Studies and Diplomacy from the London-based School of Oriental and African Studies. She is a believer in the importance of education, people-to-people exchanges and leadership development. Cathy oversaw the Adopt-a-School Programme for the Philippine Department of Education prior to joining the People-to-People Exchange team at ASEF in 2000, where she was responsible for education, youth and leadership exchange programmes until 2005. While studying for her Masters, she acted as Project Consultant for the Asia Department at the British Museum, and worked on the first Asia-Europe Traveling Exhibition on portraiture. Cathy moved to the private sector in 2006 and is currently Director of Rosetta Translation Ltd. She served as ASEFUAN President in 2005/2006.

Andreas Wiese (Germany, AU16)

Andreas is currently pursuing a Master of Studies in Global and Imperial History at the University of Oxford. His main research interest lies in East Asia. He just spent one year at Peking University in Beijing, which completed his undergraduate studies at the Europe-Asia Campus of Sciences Po Paris located in Le Havre. There, he studied comparative Asian and European law, economics, history and politics. He is active in global youth networks such as the British Council Global Changemakers, which took him as Germany’s youth representative to the G20 London Summit in 2009. In Le Havre, he was Convenor of the Sciences Po Intervarsity Debate Tournament 2010 and organiser of the Model ASEM 2009 Le Havre. Andreas likes cooking, hiking and traveling. 

Qian Sun (China, AU17)


Qian holds an undergraduate degree in Sports Journalism and communications from the Beijing Sport University and currently enrolls in the University of Leipzig/the University of Wroclaw, majors in “Global Study–a European perspective”. Academically she develops her interest in the field of globalization, and international media. During the 4 years of Bachelor, she engaged herself actively in several cultural activities. She worked as an assistant director of International Olympic Committee, produced a series of short videos to introduce Beijing traditional culture, which were in the year 2008 as part of the exhibitions of the International Olympic Committee Museum in Switzerland.  She also interned in the media relation office of the Delaware State University, USA during the exchange semester. Currently she works in Tomas Reuter as an intern. She recognizes herself as an out-going, adaptable and amicable “world citizen”, and always ready to know more young talents from all over the world.

Romain Caillaud (France, AU11)

External Affairs Manager

Romain holds a M.A. (International Relations) from Sciences Po Paris and degrees in Myanmar Studies from Paris Institute of Oriental Languages and from Yangon University of Foreign Languages. Since 2008, he is based in Yangon, Myanmar, where he oversees socio-economic research projects at consulting firm Myanmar Marketing Research & Development (MMRD). His keen interest in ancient and contemporary Asia has led him to travel extensively in the region. He has been active in ASEFUAN since 2005. 

Krystle Wong (Malaysia, AU15)
Internal Affairs Manager

Krystle recently returned from the University of California, San Diego where she spent a year as a visiting undergraduate majoring in Economics and Spanish. This completes her bachelor’s degree at Sciences Po Paris’s Europe-Asia Campus in Le Havre, where she studied comparative European and Asian history, politics and economics as well as French and Hindi. An aesthete with a passion for writing and public policy, she is now a candidate for a Dual Masters Degree in Journalism and International Economic Policy at Sciences Po Paris. Throughout her time in college, she has held leadership positions in international peer groups related to arts, writing and debate, including editorial positions at four magazines and newsletters. She has also worked as a writer at two print newspapers, once as a business journalist and another time as a film critic. She is crazy about traveling, books, graphic novels, writing and drawing.
