Interview Highlights: ASEFInnoLab4 and the Role of Universities in AI Innovation

The 4th ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory (ASEFInnoLab4) took place in Shanghai, China from 23 to 28 October 2023 with the theme “Universities’ Role in Teaching Artificial Intelligence (AI) Skills and Entrepreneurship.” It gathered 20 outstanding academics, senior university administrators, and field experts who collaborated to discuss and find ways to address challenges concerning AI Governance, AI in Education, and AI for Sustainable Development. They also joined and spoke at various Roundtable Discussions of the prestigious 2023 Shanghai Forum.

During the programme, we interviewed the participants on the growth and development of AI, the key role of universities in fostering innovation for a sustainable future, and the importance of dialogue in ensuring AI works for the collective good. Highlights: Interview with Dr Claudio RIVERA on the InnoLab Programme

Dr Claudio RIVERA, Riga Business School, talks about the value of connections and having a common vision for universities when it comes to key developments, like the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI). As a design thinking programme, InnoLab helps its participating individuals and universities envision the future and prepare them for their key role in developments that propel societies forward.

 

Highlights: Interview with Participants on the Growth of AI and the Role of Cooperation

Participants of InnoLab4 talk about the growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the need for cooperation and dialogue in this area. Collaboration fosters innovation and provides opportunities to fill in resource gaps. This is important as we look at AI as a way towards a sustainable future for humanity.

Participants of InnoLab4 answer the question “Why is it important to have a dialogue on AI Innovation in Asia and Europe?” and underscore working together as key in addressing challenges in developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ensuring we collectively do so for the common benefit of humanity.

 

Highlights: Interview with Participants on AI and the Importance of International Collaboration

InnoLab4 participants echo the call for international collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address opportunities and challenges in its development. They also emphasise the key role of universities and the importance of dialogue in ensuring that technological development and innovation, as in the case of AI, move towards collective human good.

ASEF implemented the ASEFInnoLab4 in partnership with Fudan University as a programme that promotes collaboration and facilitates the development of innovative and actionable projects concerning AI Innovation Ecosystems. You can find more information on the project here.
