The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) has partnered with the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival to launch its first online short story contest, Long Way Home, via the culture360.org portal.

The initiative encourages the creation of original short stories from emerging writers within ASEM member countries. The chosen theme of the contest is travel. ASEF is particularly interested in receiving stories that give new perspectives on local culture, identities, and traditions in the context of contemporary societies and environments in Asia and Europe.

The call for submissions is open until 3 August 2013. After this date, a panel of prominent literary experts from Asia and Europe will shortlist the most interesting stories, which will later go through a public vote on culture360.org until 1 September 2013.

Two winners, one from Asia and one from Europe, will be invited to the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in Bali. During the closing ceremony on 15 October 2013, they will be given a certificate and awarded a cash prize of 1,000 SGD each.
