Published on 06 Nov 2012

The 9th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit of Heads of State and Government (ASEM9) will be hosted by Laos (5-6 November 2012).

The theme for the Summit will be, ‘Friends for Peace, Partners for Prosperity’.

This biennial Summit will be an important occasion for leaders of Asia and Europe to discuss regional and international issues of common interest and concern, including, among others, financial and economic crisis, sustainable development, food and energy security, climate change, natural disaster response, socio-cultural cooperation and the future direction of ASEM.

The ASEM9 will be preceded by the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on 2-3 November in Vientiane, Lao PDR, which ASEF Executive Director, Ambassador Zhang Yan, will be attending.

ASEF will be presenting the Travelling Exhibition entitled, ‘Connected Histories. Shared Future’ at the Summit in Vientiane (1-6 November 2012). The exhibition commemorates ASEF’s 15th Anniversary giving a hint to the future where Asia and Europe are equal partners, sharing ideas, resources, spaces, creativity, learning, ambitions and a rich heritage.
