The 3rd Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights took place from 19th-20th June, 2000 in Paris, France. For two days, 60 participants comprising NGO representatives, officials and academics from 24 ASEM member countries debated on controversial Human Rights issues.
The key issues discussed in the seminar were Freedom of Expression and the Right to Information, Humanitarian Intervention and the Sovereignty of States, and the Right to a Healthy Environment.
These themes were articulated by keynote speakers from Asia and Europe and further debated in workshop sessions, where participants worked in smaller groups. The discussion was intense and constructive, and participants benefited from the high-quality exchange of views.
This seminar was co-organised and co-sponsored by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Sweden, France, China and ASEF with the support of the European Commission.
