65 Teachers from 32 ASEM Countries started their journey on the ASEFClassNet2022 School Collaboration -2, “STEM Education through Education for Sustainbale Development (ESD)” on Tuesday, 27 September 2022! ASEF’s Deputy Executive Director, Ambassador Leon FABER, gave a warm welcome to the participants and advised them to critically reflect on both local and global Climate Change issues to innovate STEM Teaching.

The goal of the School Collaboration tis to enable participants to enhance their teaching practices in a way that is powerful not only to innovate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) teaching but also enthuse pro-environmental choices among students. To achieve this, the Collaboration provides thematic and practical capacity building training opportunities to the participants focusing on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). The training and learning activities are happening in 3 phases:

1) Self-Learning Phase | 3 Thematic Sessions & 2 Practical Sessions
2) Team-Learning | 2 Peer-to-Peer Sessions
3) Action-Learning | Designing “Innovative Teaching Practices” in groups of 3-5 teachers

Participants will learn from experts and peers during 1st and 2nd phases, then work together in teams to build Innovative Teaching Practices during 3rd phase.

Through this School Collaboration ASEF aims to inspire and empower participants to innovate your STEM teaching practices through the lens of the Education for Sustainable Development. Therefore, the learning and training objectives of this school collaboration will particularly focus on “SDG 13 – Climate Action.” Participants are encouraged to translate new knowledge they build through this Collaboration into their local context to innovate their teaching practices and support their students to develop sustainability competencies for a better world. Through this Collaboration ASEF also aims to contribute to the existing international efforts on promoting ESD and CCE.
