Asia-Europe Creative Camp

Culture Education Events

Project Period:
01 Sep 2003 - 07 Sep 2003
Paris (France)

The Asia-Europe Creative Art Camp, held in Paris, France from 1st-7th September, 2003 was co-organised with Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts de Paris. 18 art students from Asia and Europe gathered for one week to follow courses and workshops led by an Asia-Europe team of professors, art educators and artists:

• Prof. Pan Yaochang, Shanghai University, College of Arts, China

• Prof. David Evison, Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin, Germany

• Dr Channarong Pornrungroj, Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Thailand

• Prof. Francisco Laranjo, University of Porto, Faculty of Fine Arts, Portugal

• Mr. Roger McDonald, Arts Initiative Tokyo, Japan

The Asia-Europe Creative Camp is conceived not only as a learning experience (new ideas from art history and current development in Asia and Europe) but also as an opening for a professional future (learning how to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds; how to develop and nurture artists’ networks, etc).

“The best benefit I got out this week: it really opened my mind about the possibilities you have as an artist and how big the network can be. What I liked was that there was no pressure on presenting your work but it was really about experiencing each other. I think it is a good starting point for working together. I have a totally different view on Asia now.” – Mathilde van Beekhuizen, The Netherlands.

“Being held in Paris, it provided a good artistic and cultural background for the creative camp where your sights and experience are constantly stimulated. The interaction between lecturers and students and amongst students from other countries also provided new networks and insights about culture and art experiences.” – Hazel Lim, Singapore.

The Asia-Europe Creative Camp was sponsored by the Lee Foundation and the Asia-Pacific Breweries Foundation.
