ASEMUS in conversation with Steven Engelsman

News and Updates on ASEMUS website and newsletter

Steven ENGELSMAN has been recently appointed as the Director of the Weltmuseum Wien in Vienna, Austria. On this occasion he was interviewed and featured on the Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) website.

In this two-minute video interview Mr ENGELSMAN explains the reason behind the re-branding of the 200-year old museum, which was formerly known as the Museum of Ethnology.

"The most important aspect in the re-branding is that ethnology is a term that we no longer want to use (...) The whole mind set of ethnology is out of date (...) This museum will be a museum where the world meets Vienna and Vienna meets the world (...) and it will celebrate cultural diversity by all means possible."

Weltmuseum Wien museum is a member of ASEMUS and will host the 6th ASEMUS General Conference in 2014.
