ASEF's Executive Director, Ambassador ZHANG Yan led ASEF’s delegation to the 4th Asia-Europe Meeting of Ministers for Education (ASEMME4) 12-14 May 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  ASEF presented its contributions to the ASEM Education Process since ASEMME3. The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) and the ASEM Education Secretariat (AES) co-organised the event.

Themed ‘Strategising ASEM Education Collaboration’, ASEMME4 took the discussions on the four key topics identified by the Education Ministers at ASEMME3 (2011 in Denmark) further. The topics were: (1) Quality Assurance and Recognition (2) University-Business Co-operation (3) Mobility, and (4) Lifelong Learning (LLL) and Vocational Education and Training (VET).

A 2nd ASEM Senior (Education) Officials Meeting (SOM2) preceded ASEMME4. SOM2 was held on Sunday, 12 May 2013, where the draft Chair's Conclusions was presented and discussed. ASEF highlighted its pivotal role in the ASEM Education Process during SOM2, and had set up an information booth to showcase its work on education.
