Meeting Of Deans Of Business Schools

Project Period: Contact: Department: Programme: Theme:
15 Jan 98 - 17 Jan 98 Asia-Europe Foundation Governance & Economy Department Education

Venue:
Madrid (Spain)

OVERVIEW

This meeting was held as part of the European Foundation For Management Develoment (EFMD) meeting. Deans from Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand conducted two workshops to provide information about their schools and the networking situation in Asia. They also held a lively discussion on the following topics:

- Improving networks between Asian and European business school deans

- Problems and opportunities vis-à-vis student exchange

- The need for case studies and cross-cultural reference material

Participants agreed that Asian networks were not as well established as their European counterparts, and that there was considerable room for investment in intra-Asia and Asia-Europe networking. As a first step, they pledged to expand the existing ASEAN network to include China, Korea, and Japan.

As a result of the meeting, individual and institutional relationships were established, which would help pave the way for concrete co-operative activities in the future.
