Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable Development Goals in Asia and Europe. Localising the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

In September 2015, member states of the UN General Assembly gathered to adopt the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Moving forward, countries will now need to localise this global agenda into their national strategies and systems in order to initiate transformative change.

Contributing to this process, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) will be cooperating with the Romanian National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA) to organise a seminar on SDGs entitled “Sustainable Development Goals in Asia and Europe. Localising the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

The seminar will bring together stakeholders, including representatives from government, academia, civil society, and business, encouraging an inclusive discussion on how SDGs could be implemented into national level contexts. It will also be an opportunity to review Asian and European experiences in the implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and explore potentialities in their on-going work related to SDGs.

During the seminar, ASEF will present the findings of its latest Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) publication, Who Will Pay for the Sustainable Development Goals? With discussions on practical issues in SDGs’ implementation including financing sustainable development, the seminar will facilitate an exchange of insight from Asian and European perspectives bringing the 2030 Agenda closer to reality.
