Making SDGs Work: Workshop for Policy-makers from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam

CLMV Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals Implementation

The Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) held a two-day workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) entitled “Sustainable Development Goals Delivery: Planning for Implementation” for policy-makers from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Viet Nam (CLMV). This workshop was held on 14-15 February 2017 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, and was co-organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), with the cooperation of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC), and the Ministry of Planning and Finance (MOPF) of Myanmar.

Gathering more than 150 representatives from representative governments’ agencies involved in the implementation of the SDGs, this workshop offered an overview of the most pressing challenges in the implementation of SDGs in the CLMV region. The attendees benefited from the expertise of regional specialists and leaders of country delegations, as well as representatives from the European Union Delegation to Myanmar, International Monetary Fund and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Myanmar. There was knowledge-sharing on how to shape domestic policy to be aligned with the regional and global strategies, and how to localise the global strategies to the national context. Topics that emerged during the workshop included methodology guidelines, partnerships for the SDGs, identifying gaps, improving human resources, technology, and addressing any coordination challenges.

This CLMV workshop is the third regional event on the implementation of SDGs that has been jointly carried out by ASEF, HSF and the governments of CLMV countries since 2014, under the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum).
