We have moved from the traditional print
edition of our ASEFnews to this new
quarterly e-newsletter. Through this, we
hope to provide you with the latest
information about ASEF events and how you
can get involved.
We welcome your feedback on our new
newsletter, as well as any interesting
first-person accounts of your involvement
with ASEF-related activities for future
publication. We look forward to hearing

A long, hard look at ASEM
The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) will
undergo its third round of enlargement
with the entry of Australia, Russia and
New Zealand at the 8th ASEM Summit, which
will be held in Brussels on 4-5 October
2010. In view of this important juncture
in ASEM’s development, the
ASEM Outlook Workshop
explored how ASEM can further enhance its
relevance, responsiveness and
effectiveness as a dialogue process.

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) promotes
greater mutual understanding between Asia
and Europe through intellectual, cultural
and people-to-people exchanges. Through
ASEF, civil society concerns are included
as a vital component of deliberations of
the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). ASEF was
established in February 1997 by the
participating governments of ASEM and has
since implemented over 450 projects,
engaging over 15,000 direct participants
as well as reaching out to a much wider
audience in Asia and Europe.
