The EU Through the Eyes of Asia: Media, Public and Elite Perceptions in China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand is a publication under ASEF’s European Studies in Asia (ESiA) programme. This publication presents an in-depth analysis on Asian perceptions of the EU through media evaluation, public opinion surveys and elite interviews. This first volume covers the pilot study covering China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand was lead by Prof. Martin Holland, Director of the National Centre of Research on Europe (NCRE), University of Canterbury between January and July 2006.
In 2008, the study was expanded to include Indonesia, The Philippines and Vietnam. The findings of this study are available in the study’s second volume.
This publication is a partnership between ASEF, NCRE, Ateneo University of Manila, and the University of Warsaw, Poland. It is supported by the European Commission and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
