Overview

ASEF's work in Media

We engage media industry stakeholders in annual events enabling a diverse exchange of perspectives. We also facilitate dialogue and cooperation by managing ASEF’s multiple online platforms that aim to increase awareness of ASEF and its projects spanning all thematic areas. We also manage the ASEM InfoBoard.

Overview

COM promotes Asia-Europe cooperation by advancing awareness and knowledge about ASEF, ASEM and key issues in Asia-Europe relations. Aimed at a diverse range of constituencies, including the media and general public, COM’s activities foster greater mutual understanding between Asia and Europe in the media space. Media is one of 7 thematic areas of work in ASEF.  Through its media projects, COM creates unique networking platforms for the exchange of views and ideas as well as cooperation among media professionals from Asia and Europe. The media projects address themes aligned with the ASEM agenda, which examines issues relevant to Asia-Europe relations, challenges faced by the media industry, as well as the professional development of media personnel.

COM currently implements two projects. The first is the ASEF Journalists Seminar which is an official side-event of the ASEM Foreign Ministers Meetings. The second is the ASEM Infoboard (AIB) which is the strategic outreach platform of the ASEM Process.

In addition to these project roles, COM is responsible for corporate or strategic communications.  In this function, COM is custodian for ASEF’s brand, identity and messages, provides support on thought leadership where needed, organises outreach events for key stakeholders, and drives our messaging and build our presence on social media through make strategic choices, annual Roadmaps, management of its digital assets, and coordinating project communications by ASEF project departments and ASEM-related bodies.

This event marked the first international event hosted by ASEF after the COVID-19 pandemic. 2. The ASEF Editors Roundtable  10th ASEF Editors’ Roundtable (ASEFERT10) is the 2021 edition of a 2-day biennial forum aimed at promoting dialogue, strengthening ties and cross-continental cooperation between 20-30 news editors from across Asia and Europe. It was held in conjunction with the 13th ASEM Simmit (ASEM13). ERT also enhances ASEM’s visibility through increasing journalists’ awareness of ASEM and encouraging media coverage of the Summit.

ASEM InfoBoard

As the only permanent institution of the ASEM Process, ASEF is tasked with the ASEMInfoBoard.org (AIB), which serves as a platform for promoting dialogue and cooperation between the two regions. The AIB also provides information on ASEM’s activities and initiatives, and can be used by ASEM members to coordinate their activities. ASEF is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the ASEM website to ensure that it remains up-to-date and relevant.

The AIB has become the primary source of information on ASEM for stakeholders, including governments, media professionals, and civil society organisations, supplementing information regarding ASEM found on the websites of member partners. The information on the AIB includes ASEM meetings and summits, as well as the outcomes and initiatives arising from these events. It also serves as a platform for sharing best practices and promoting dialogue between the two regions. By maintaining the AIB, ASEF is playing a role in promoting transparency, openness, and accessibility in ASEM’s activities, in line with UNSDGs.
