If you are a secondary, high or vocation school teacher or school leader and looking for a platform to collaborate and work with peers in Asia and Europe, then this opportunity is just for you! 

Background

For over two decades, the ASEF Classroom Network has been providing collaborative capacity-building opportunities to secondary, high, and vocational schools in Asia and Europe. It explores the potential of cutting-edge EdTech tools through integration of contemporary education topics such as ESD, CCE, and GCE. in Its target group is broad, given its intergenerational & multi-stakeholder outreach. It ranges from students, teachers, school leaders, teacher trainers, researchers, policymakers, and to EdTech experts. Since its inception, more than 2,800 teachers from Asia and Europe have participated in various activities and become members of the ASEF Classroom Network. As a result, more than 40,000 students have been engaged in 430 Asia-Europe School Collaborations and local spin-off activities. Since 2022, the project also empowered teachers to design over 125 Innovative Teaching Practices that contribute to advancing the quality of education across secondary and vocational schools in Asia and Europe. 

ASEFClassNet18 Topic Overview

In 2025, through the 18th edition of the project we envision building a community of teachers who can:

  • Understand the basics of AIED Design
  • Learn how to critically evaluate effectiveness, inclusivity and ethics of AIED tools
  • Work together with peers to co-create an Innovative Teaching Practice using AI tools
  • Share feedback and help AIED Design companies to improve their products

What is a School Collaboration?

This activity is for teachers and school leaders at the secondary education level to develop their knowledge on the topic as well as advocacy and leadership skills for integrating ethical and effective AI innovation in classrooms across Asian and European schools. 

The full ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration is a 7-month (May-November 2025) hybrid knowledge and capacity-building project for teachers and school leaders at the secondary education level. It aims to enhance teaching & learning environments in secondary, high, and vocational schools across Asia and Europe on the above-mentioned topic. To achieve this aim, the ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration project activities are for teachers and school leaders at the secondary education level to develop their knowledge on the topic as well as advocacy and leadership skills for integrating ethical and effective AI innovation in classrooms across Asian and European schools.

Who Should Apply?

Citizens* of Asian and European countries who are:

  • Teachers, school leaders, and any educators at the secondary, vocational, or high school level based in an ASEM country

*Asia: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.

*Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Programme Design

The ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration is a 7-month (May-November 2025) hybrid knowledge and capacity-building project for teachers and school leaders at the secondary education level.

It aims to enhance teaching & learning environments in secondary, high, and vocational schools across Asia and Europe on the topic of “Effective, Inclusive, and Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) Design” to co-create innovative teaching solutions together in a peer-to-peer setting.

The programme of the ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration consists of 4 stages: 1) Self-Learning 2) Team-Learning 3) Action Learning and 4) On-site Conference.

What Commitment is Needed?

The ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration programme will start on 13 May 2025 (Welcome Session) and ends on October 2025. Participating teachers need to commit to set aside ca. 2-4 hours per week to participate fully.

Selected participants are expected to:

  • Fully participate in 17 online sessions taking place on each Monday, between 16.00-17.30 Singapore time (GMT+8)  (est. 18.5 hours in total)
  • Design an Innovative Teaching Practice (ITP) with their pair and individually meet up with each other and their mentor as needed (est. 20 hours)

At the end of this Virtual Knowledge and Capacity Building Phase, participants will also have the chance to participate in the Onsite Conference (Europe, Sep/Oct 2025): A 4.5-day long on-site conference to bring the best performing ITP teams of ASEFClassNet18 together. Participants will be invited based on their contribution and active participation. event to showcase and further develop the selected Innovative Teaching Practices for implementing in participants’ classrooms. 

After the conference, participants will be engaged in the Virtual Action Learning (4 weeks), to further strengthen their knowledge and pedagogical skills by putting their knowledge into action. They will implement their designed Innovative Teaching Practice (ITP) in their own classrooms/schools, with the support and advise from the Mentors. The project will close with ITP implementation result submissions and a feedback and evaluation in November 2025.
