Sustainable Development is one of ASEF’s seven key thematic areas. In this field, we engage civil society, governments, and businesses on national, regional, and international levels to build capacity on issues of sustainability. We organise workshops, dialogue platforms, and knowledge hub meetings that produce research on the state of sustainability in Asia and Europe. We align our work with the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and contribute to the global debate on climate change through the ASEM Process.
Established in 2003, the Asia-Europe Environment Forum (ENVforum) is a partnership of Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Centre (ASEIC), Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Government of Sweden through the Strategic Collaborative Fund administered by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).
The ENVforum aims to contribute to the formulation of sound decisions across all sectors that are mindful of their environmental, social and economic impacts and of the future generations. In doing so, we foster inter-regional cooperation between Asia and Europe on areas of sustainable development and climate change. Since our inception more than a decade ago, the ENVforum has organised over 70 high-level international conferences, roundtables and workshops bringing together multi-stakeholder representatives, and has produced multiple prominent research publications, country case studies, and policy papers.
