Facilitate education collaboration between youth, students, teachers & educators, higher education & EdTech experts with policy makers across Asia and Europe.
Education is one of ASEF’s key thematic areas. In this field, we connect multiple stakeholders across both regions. Through policy dialogues, capacity building and the creation of bi-regional networks, we contribute to innovation in the formal and non-formal education sector and towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda2030.
Education projects promote inclusive & equitable access across all education sectors and engage civil society and government stakeholders in interdisciplinary, technology-driven and lifelong learning opportunities to enhance quality education.
Further, we facilitate a structured dialogue between young people and decision-makers. ASEF’s education projects are part of the ASEM Education Process and their outcomes feed into the agenda of the ASEM Education Ministers’ Meetings (ASEMMEs).
The ASEF Classroom Network Project brings together Teachers from Secondary & Vocational Schools for teacher capacity building and collaboration between the 2 regions. The 16th ASEF Classroom Network project titled “Leading Change: Digital Transformation of Education in the Era of AI” in 2023 was a hybrid project and is took place both online and on-site in Ljubljana, Slovenia throughout 2023. It aimed to engage a diverse group of intergenerational participants to exchange knowledge and come up with innovative projects on using AI in Education – both secondary school teachers, as well as academics from Faculties of Education. In 2024, the 17th ASEF Classroom Network project titled “Learning about AI & Learning with AI” continues to engage stakeholders in two tracks: School Collaboration and Faculty Collaboration. Read more about the project here.
The ASEF Regional Conference on Higher Education (ARC) is our flagship project in this area, and Official Dialogue Partner of the ASEM Education Ministers. Last year we launched a research on “Asia-Europe Higher Education Mapping: Working towards the SDGs” that explores national policies and university practices contributing to the SDGs, and conducted Policy Dialogues with Policy-makers, Higher Education Managers and Student Representatives on the report.
In 2024, the 10th edition of ARC is focusing on the topic of “[Un]debated Ways of Rethinking Higher Education” which will have five sub-themes that will explore what the ASEM Education Space hopes to achieve by 2030 and beyond where deeper global conversations are needed. Read more about the project here.
The ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratories (ASEFInnoLab) project series is bringing together university managers to exchange knowledge, good practices and build new networks to take their work to the next level. Recent editions were focusing on “Universities Role in Teaching Artificial Intelligence (AI) Skills and Entrepreneurship”. In 2024, the 5th edition of ASEFInnoLab is exploring the topic of “Universities’ Role in AI Innovation Ecosystems” and unfolds three subthemes to see how universities can position themselves in AI Governance, AI in Education, and AI for Sustainable Development. Read more about the project here.
Our flagship project is the ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS), focusing on leadership capacity building and youth collaboration in Asia and Europe. Most recent edition of this project was focusing on Leadership & Society 5.0. In 2024 we organise two ASEFYLS Capacity Building Trainings, and preparing for the next ASEFYLS Youth Summit to take pace in 2025 in Japan. Read more about the project here.
