How can YOUth Anticipate and Shape the Future?
WHAT IS THE #’ASIA-EUROPE LEADERSHIP TRAINING: ANTICIPATORY LEADERSHIP IN THE ARCTIC’?
The ‘Asia-Europe Youth Leadership Training: Anticipatory Leadership in the Arctic’ takes place from 23-29 August 2026 in Tromsø, Norway.
It is organised as part of the ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026 which consists of a Training Phase and Action Phase. As an additional component, the ‘Asia-Europe Youth Leadership Training: Anticipatory Leadership in the Arctic’ will physically bring together 40 participants from the ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026, to engage in people-to-people dialogue exchanges, networking, and learning in a local context. Beyond the online Training, it is an opportunity for further exploration of the topic, and a deep dive into the Arctic as a case study for Anticipatory Leadership.
The ‘Asia-Europe Youth Leadership Training: Anticipatory Leadership in the Arctic’ will include the following elements:
- Thematic workshops and panel discussions on Anticipatory Leadership for a Human-Centered Future
- Study Visits, to provide inspiration and case studies to practice what they have learnt
- Cultural exchange, both within the local context, and between participants
The Training is being organised in partnership with and hosted by UiT The Arctic University of Tromsø and under the European Youth Capital 2026, “True North – Tromsø 2026”.
Participants must actively participate in the ASEFYLS Capacity Training before attending the Training in Norway.
WHAT IS #ASEFYLS?
The ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS) is a Youth platform that connects young people across Asia & Europe, applying a 360 degree approach on leadership development and community engagement: 1) self-leadership (you), 2) team leadership (we) and 3) societal leadership (all).
The ‘Asia-Europe Youth Leadership Training: Anticipatory Leadership in the Arctic’ takes place alongside the ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026, and is a youth leadership programme focusing on ‘Anticipatory Leadership for a Human-Centered Future’.
‘Anticipatory Leadership’ is the capacity and habit of using the future to inform the present by analysing trends, exploring a range of future scenarios, and using those insights to question assumptions, adjust leadership style, and take collaborative, adaptive action, that move systems toward more equitable and sustainable futures.

Participation in the ‘Asia-Europe Youth Leadership Training: Anticipatory Leadership in the Arctic’ is dependent on active participation in the ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026. You can apply to the ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026 and indicate your interest in being selected to the in-person programme in Norway through the Open Call for Application.
The programme is open to representatives of youth and student organisations from across Asia & Europe from diverse backgrounds.
