As universities navigate the latest technological revolution that is AI, they face an imperative to adapt to sweeping changes that this transformative force brings to the Asia-Europe education landscape. Now, universities find themselves at a crossroads as they deal with unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges.
With this reality, the 5th ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory‘s (ASEFInnoLab5) online cohort worked on position papers aimed at providing a vision of how the role of universities could evolve decades from now and ways to navigate opportunities and challenges that await higher education in a few decades.
The publication is divided into three main sections aligned with ASEFInnoLab5’s areas of focus: Universities’ Role in AI Governance by 2060, Universities’ Role in AI in Education by 2060, and Universities’ Role in AI for Sustainable Development by 2060. It features 16 forward-looking position papers written by our online cohort for the project’s online programme, which ran from May to June 2024. Using the Scenario Planning Method, our intercultural and multidisciplinary teams produced papers that seek to explore and present what could be universities’ role in different aspects of future AI innovation ecosystems.
This output was officially launched on 28 November 2024 through a virtual event that welcomed 120 participants from Asia and Europe. The audience learned more about the development process for the position papers featured in the volume and heard from select authors on the highlights of their papers.
