WHAT IS THE ASIA-EUROPE TRAINING AND YOUTH SUMMIT ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMACY?
As part of the Asia-Europe Science and Technology Diplomacy Initiative for Young Professionals, we will conduct the second edition of the Asia-Europe Training and Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy in 2026. (Learn more about 2025’s edition here).
The Training and Youth Summit consists of a 6-week long online Training and in-person Youth Summit, bringing together early-career professionals working in the international sphere on science, technology, and innovation-related matters to learn about Science and Technology Diplomacy and its importance in Asia-Europe relations.
The aims of the programme are:
Knowledge Exchange and Mutual Learning
To facilitate knowledge exchange and mutual learning on the science and technology diplomacy ecosystems in Asia and Europe
Build Skills in Science and Technology Diplomacy
To build skills in intercultural science and technology diplomacy communication
Build Peer-to-Peer Networks
To build peer-to-peer networks among participants to facilitate future dialogue and collaboration
WHAT WILL THE PROGRAMME LOOK LIKE?
The Asia-Europe Training and Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy takes place from September to October 2026 (with pre-training components taking place in July and August), consisting of 2 programme elements; 1) an online Training and 2) an in-person Youth Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Asia-Europe Training on Science and Technology Diplomacy 2026 takes place between 1 September – 21 October 2026 and is a 6-week-long online, interactive training offering engaging learning experiences to young professionals working in the intersection of science, technology, and international relations. The participants will be brought together to develop their knowledge of science and technology diplomacy and build connections for stronger Asia-Europe Cooperation.
Welcome session and a networking session will take place before the start of the online Training in July and August 2026.
We invite 100-120 participants from ASEF member countries, to join webinars and hands-on interactive workshops led by experts in the field, designed to build practical skills and foster cross-regional connections.
Applications will be open from young professionals up to 35 years old representing one of the following groups:
- Civil Society: Research or Science Managers, having a supervisory or coordination role (e.g. managing research projects or teams, overseeing research areas, or supporting institutional research strategy), and are involved in international science, technology and innovation cooperation.
- Government: Diplomats and Government Officials working in the intersection of science, technology, innovation and international relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or relevant government institutions.

The Youth Summit brings together around 40 Asians and Europeans from the online Training to Jakarta, Indonesia to join the Asia-Europe Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy 2026 between 19-23 October 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
At the Conference, youth delegates will be able to meet in person to discuss the themes covered in the online Training. They will then be able to workshop a Communique on their perspectives and thoughts on the future of Asia-Europe cooperation in the field of Science and Technology Diplomacy.

The Youth Summit is organised in partnership with and hosted by the the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia.
WHO CAN JOIN THE PROGRAMME?
We invite early-career professionals with the following profiles to join the programme:
