WHAT IS THE ASIA-EUROPE TRAINING AND YOUTH SUMMIT ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMACY?

As part of the Asia-Europe Science and Technology Diplomacy Initiative for Young Professionals, ASEF is conducting the second edition of the Asia-Europe Training and Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy in 2026 – and you can join us! (Learn more about 2025’s edition here)

The Training and Youth Summit brings together early-career professionals working in the international sphere on science, technology, and innovation-related matters to learn about Science and Technology Diplomacy and its importance in Asia-Europe relations.

WHAT DOES THE ASIA-EUROPE TRAINING AND YOUTH SUMMIT ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY DIPLOMACY OFFER?

Asia-Europe Training on Science and Technology Diplomacy | 22 July – 8 October 2026 | Online
 
The Asia-Europe Training on Science and Technology Diplomacy offers an engaging learning experience for ca. 120 young professionals working in the intersection of science, technology, and international relations. Participants will join webinars and hands-on interactive workshops led by experts in the field, designed to build practical skills and foster cross-regional connections.

Asia-Europe Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy | 19-24 October 2026 | Jakarta, Indonesia

Selected participants from the online Training will be invited to join the Asia-Europe Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy between 19-24 October 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

At the Youth Summit, youth delegates will prepare and present a Declaration on Youth Perspectives on Asia-Europe Cooperation in Science Diplomacy to senior stakeholders in the field at high-level events during the Youth Summit; contributing their voices to high-level discussions and shaping the future of collaboration in this vital field.

The Youth Summit is organised in partnership with and hosted by the the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia.

ARE THERE ANY COSTS INVOLVED?

Participation is free of charge. There are neither registration nor participation fees for this programme. Accommodation, meals, and travel subsidies will be provided for the selected participants for the Youth Summit.

ARE YOU THE ONE WE ARE LOOKING FOR?

We invite early-career professionals with the following profiles to apply:

  • Civil Society: Research and Science Managers in tertiary education institutions, research organisations, and professional organisations working in international science, technology and innovation-related matters
  • Government: Diplomats and Government Officials working in the areas of international collaboration and science and technology diplomacy topics

Participants will need to comply with the following eligibility criteria:

  • Citizens of eligible Asian and European countries* up to 35 years old
  • Excellent command of English (Verbal and written) and of the official language of the selected country
  • Currently working as a Research or Science Manager (Civil Society) or a Diplomat or Government Official (Government) in one of the eligible Asian and European Countries

Note: The programme is not open to undergraduate students nor for doctoral students/candidates.

Selection criteria such as motivation to participate and demonstrated experience in Science and Technology Diplomacy.

100-120 participants will be invited to join the online Training, with ca 40 being invited to join the Youth Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.

*Asia: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.

*Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

WHAT COMMITMENT IS NEEDED?

The Training programme will take place between 22 July – 8 October 2026. Participants are required to join and set aside time to participate fully in the online sessions. Participants are expected to:

  •  Join Welcome session on 22 July and Networking session on 20 August 2026.
  • Actively participate in 12 live sessions over the course of the 6 weeks (on average 3.5 hours per week), taking place on Tuesdays (8am–9:30am UTC) & Thursdays (8am–10:00am UTC) online.
  • Engage in discussions & peer-to-peer learning and learning from experts – this includes engagement in discussions in allocated study groups.

Selected participants who are invited to join the Youth Summit, in Jakarta, Indonesia (19-24 October 2026) are expected to fully complete both the Training programme, and attend and actively engage onsite in Jakarta.
