We are thrilled to launch the ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration on “Effective, Inclusive, and Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) Design”! This year, 12 outstanding Mentors and 55 passionate teachers from over 30 countries across Asia and Europe are coming together to explore the future of AI in education. ASEF’s Deputy Executive Director, Mr ZHANG Lei warmly welcome the participants and shares an inspiring remarks. In his words:
“AI is no longer a distant concept. It is already present in your classrooms. But as educators, you face a critical question: how do we ensure that AI tools support human learning? How can we make them effective for diverse learners, inclusive of every student, and respectful of ethical standards such as data privacy and fairness? … Over the next few months, you will explore what makes an AIED tool effective, how to design for inclusivity, and how to make responsible and ethical decisions about AI use in your classrooms. You will also work closely with peers and mentors to co-create Innovative Teaching Practices that can be applied and scaled in your schools. And, most importantly, you will build lasting connections across cultures, systems, and disciplines. At ASEF, we believe that transformation happens when people come together, not just to learn from each other, but to build together. That is what this programme is about: creating a community of teachers who are not only prepared for the future of AI in education, but who are also shaping it.”
Ms YAMADA Kazumi, Director of the Asia-Europe Cooperation Division Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, also warmly welcomes our participants and encourages them to learn about AI and education to become excellent educators for AI-driven classrooms. She particularly shares about the importance of reducing digital divide and equal learning opportunities for all learners. In her words:
“Since AI which has been the focus of the the ASEF Classroom Network project during the past few years cuts across many disciplines, including education, it is essential to close the digital divide so that the benefits of AI can be widely enjoyed by everyone and to develop a system of AI governance, which I understand is the main focus of this year’s project, namely, “effective, inclusive, and ethical artificial intelligence (AI) in AI education design”. Japan is also actively engaging in enhancing international governance for safe, secure and trustworthy AI as can be seen in its leadership in the “Hiroshima AI Process” under the G7.”
ASEF Education Department’s Director Ms Reka TOZSA introduces participants to ASEF and the ASEFClassNet project while ASEFEdu’s Project Lead for Education Innovation Ms Jyoti RAHAMAN introduces participants to the ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration programme. It is a 7-month (May-November 2025) long hybrid knowledge and capacity-building project for teachers and school leaders at the secondary education level. It aims to enhance teaching & learning environments in secondary, high, and vocational schools across Asia and Europe on the above-mentioned topic. To achieve this aim, the ASEFClassNet18 School Collaboration project activities are for teachers and school leaders at the secondary education level to develop their knowledge on the topic as well as advocacy and leadership skills for integrating ethical and effective AI innovation in classrooms across Asian and European schools.
Through cross-cultural teamwork, innovative lesson design, and impactful classroom experiments, this collaboration empowers educators to co-create AI-driven learning experiences that are ethical, inclusive, and future-ready.
