On 23 July 2025, we wrapped up the 6th ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory’s Online Phase!

Lasting 11 weeks in total, this virtual programme carried the theme “Universities’ Role in Developing Skills for an AI-Powered Future” where 200+ participants joined a series of expert webinars and teamed up to co-create outputs in multidisciplinary, intercultural teams.

In the closing session, 33 teams from Asia and Europe presented their initial outputs—either an extended abstract or a micro-credential programme proposal—in front of a panel of experts. Topics of these impressive team outputs range from AI-driven university transformation, strategic institutional frameworks, curriculum innovation, and learning assessment and evaluation, among many others.

We extend our sincerest thanks to the experts who joined our jury roster—some of them are new partners, but most come from our extensive network of ASEFInnoLab alumni:

Apart from engaging the presenters in incisive Q&A segments, our jurors also selected teams for our Best Presentation Awards—a small celebration to honour select teams’ impressive pitch delivery. We once again commend the following groups for a job well done:

  • AP8, represented by Mr Joel Naoki Ernesto CHRISTOPH (Italy)
  • AP35, represented by Mrs Hang NGO (Vietnam), and
  • MP9, represented jointly by its members Prof Henrique O’NEILL (Portugal), Mr Rohan SACHDEVA (Australia), Mrs Ieva VIEDEMANE (Latvia), Mrs Irina DIMITROVA (Bulgaria), and Ms Lidya VERADILLA (Indonesia)

We want to congratulate all the teams who poured their energy, creativity, and commitment throughout the Online Phase. For many, the teamwork will continue as they expand on their initial outputs—either on their own or during one of the three upcoming Onsite Events for top performing teams:

Invited teams will present the full draft of their academic paper or micro-credential programme document in one of these events, with the aim of developing them further. Outstanding academic papers will get the chance to be published in a book of conference proceedings as part of Springer’s Lecture Notes in Educational Technology. Teams with promising micro-credential programmes will be closely guided towards a clear roadmap for testing and running their course towards full implementation.

We look forward to meeting many of them in-person at our upcoming onsite events, and we’re excited to see partnerships and professional engagements they will pursue together in the future.

We thank our participants, partner universities, resource persons, and guest speakers/jurors in making this virtual programme into a resounding success!
