The ASEF Public Health Network organised the workshop “Risk Communications for Public Health Emergencies: Bridging the National Mechanism with Healthcare Workers.” The workshop brought together 48 experts in public health and risk communications from governments, the private sector, academia, the civil sector and international organisations. The workshop featured healthcare workers, who worked on emergency response to the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS), the 2015 Nepal earthquake and the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Participants evaluated the challenges and capacity needs in communications for real-life events.

ASEF and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), as the Secretariat of the Joint UN Initiative on Migration and Health in Asia (JUNIMA), jointly organised a roundtable on migration and healthcare. Under the title of “Socio-economic Approaches and Strengthening Partnerships”, the participants at this meeting discussed the socio-economic benefits of investing in migrants’ health, and how strengthening multi-sectorial partnerships at national, regional and global levels helps to advocate for policies that support migrants’ access to health.
