The Asia-Europe Training on Science and Technology Diplomacy 2025 Kicks Off!

The Asia-Europe Training on Science and Technology Diplomacy 2025 has officially started!

On 23 October, participants gathered for the Welcome and Introduction session of the 7-week online learning journey taking place from 23 October to 4 December 2025. Bringing together early-career professionals from across Asia and Europe, the training explores how science and technology can inform international cooperation and global governance.

The programme officially opened with welcome remarks from Ambassador Beata Stoczyńska, Executive Director of ASEF; Ms Lone Thorup, ASEF Governor for Denmark and Chief Advisor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark; Ms Lili Érmezei, Representative, Central European Scientific Society of Innovation and Technology (CESSIT); and Ms Nur Tri Aries S, Executive Secretary, National Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN).

Participants were also inspired by a keynote address from Dr Ronit Prawer, Director for Asia Pacific at the International Science Council, Australian Academy of Science, who shared insights on science diplomacy, its history, and how it can function as a catalyst for global collaboration and trust-building between regions.

About the Programme

The Asia-Europe Training on Science and Technology Diplomacy provides a space for young diplomats, government officials, and research managers to explore the intersections between science, innovation, and foreign policy. The interactive training programme includes webinars, expert-led workshops, and simulations, addressing key themes such as:

  • Science impacting diplomacy
  • Diplomacy impacting science
  • Innovation and technology in diplomacy
  • Understanding personal, cultural, and professional lenses when engaging in international cooperation

Over 100 participants representing diverse backgrounds in government, academia, and civil society are joining the programme, signalling strong momentum for interregional dialogue on innovation and diplomacy. Following the online Training, selected participants will convene in person for the Asia-Europe Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy, offering further opportunities for exchange, collaboration, and joint action on pressing global challenges. This Youth Summit will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark – hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denmark under the Danish Presidency, taking place alongside the 2nd European Science Diplomacy Conference.
