The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) will host the event ‘A Showcase of Philippine Culture through Music and Dances featuring Parangal’ organised by the Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore on 26 July 2024.
Parangal, a Filipino Folk Dance and Music Company based in San Francisco, California, will present dance and music performances showcasing Filipino traditions and heritage. They are joined by artists and culture bearers from various cultural communities in the Philippines—from the Kalinga indigenous group in northern Philippines, to the Sama, Meranao and Maguindanaon communities in the south. Through their performances, they will pay homage to the Philippines’ heritage. With the Filipino diaspora becoming one of the largest in the world, the performances aim to reconnect the Filipinos to their roots providing a sense of pride and identity.
The event is part of the Philippines’ National Culture Consciousness Week that is held annually from 1-7 July. This celebration aims to promote and raise awareness and appreciation of the country’s diverse and vibrant cultural heritage. The year 2024 also marks the 55th anniversary of the Philippine-Singapore bilateral relations. Hence, this showcase is a timely event to celebrate with both countries and further strengthen their ties through cultural exchanges.
