Just a week after launching the ARC9 Report on “Asia-Europe Higher Education Mapping: Working Towards the SDGs”, ASEF Education Department’s along with authors of the report presented the key findings at one of the biggest regional higher education platforms: at the annual conference of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) in Bangkok, Thailand.
APAIE 2023 Bangkok was titled “Towards a sustainable future for international education in the Asia Pacific” and took place between 13-17 March 2023 in the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center . More than 2,700 delegates from the international education community attended, with great opportunities to expand both their knowledge and networks.
ASEF’s was scheduled on Thursday, 16 March titled “Mapping Higher Education Partnerships: Working Towards the SDGs in Asia & Europe”. About 40 delegates joined the workshop, where two of the authors presented the findings:
- Dr Miguel Antonio LIM, Senior Lecturer in Education and International Development at The University of Manchester, presented the finding of Part 1 of the ARC9 Report, focusing on higher education policies working towards sustainable development;
- Dr Doria ABDULLAH, Senior Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, presented the key findings of Part 2, focusing on higher education institutional practice, a study done in partnership with the International Association of Universities (IAU);
- the workshop was chaired and led by Ms Reka TOZSA, Director of the Education Department at ASEF and editor of the study.
The presentations were followed by insightful questions and a good discussion with the attendees, who represented teaching and research faculty, policymakers and managers of international education and research organisations.
During the conference, ASEF Education Department also arranged bilateral meetings with our partners and potential future partners, such as the ASEAN University network (AUN), ASEM Education Secretariat (AES), Mahidol University Thailand, Chiang Mai University Thailand, Daffodil University Bangladesh, OP Jindal University India, Sophia University Japan, Tohoku University Japan, Fudan University China.
