Earlier this month we kicked off the virtual stage of the 16th ASEF Classroom Network (ASEFClassNet16) School Collaboration Project with hundreds of teachers from 39 Asian and European countries!

ASEF’s Executive Director Ambassador Toru Morikawa welcomed the participants with key remarks on the topic. He encouraged participant teachers to take ownership of AI&ED innovation in classrooms and motivates them to critically reflect on 3 key things to lead AI&ED innovation in their classrooms in a relevant, effective, realistic, safe and inclusive way:

  1. As educators teachers play an instrumental role in preparing the minds of tomorrow in today’s complex and continuously evolving digital world.
  2. Teachers are in charge of any kind of innovation, with or without technology, that takes place in their own classrooms, and they must advocate for the right type of AI innovation in education.
  3. Teachers need to clearly understand and internalise the role of human vs. technology in classrooms.

He concluded his remarks by reminding teachers that “AI can never replace the magic that happens within the walls of a classroom. The true power of education lies in a teacher’s ability to nurture not just knowledge, but also empathy, compassion, and a deep sense of social responsibility.”

Through this project ASEF aims to support all the participating teachers with knowledge, insights and pedagogical skills needed to pave the conversation on AI in Education towards the right direction. They will learn about the topic from 2 key perspectives: 1) Humanistic Dimension and 2) Technological Dimension.

In addition to building thematic knowledge on AI&ED, ASEF also designed this opportunity for teachers in a peer-to-peer format that enable them to form intercultural perspectives, new networks and long-lasting friendships.

We wish our participants great success and a meaningful learning journey over the next 3 months.

Background Information:

The information above is related to the the 3-month long virtual stage of the ASEFClassNet16 School Collaboration project that focuses on “Leading Change: Digital Transformation of Education in the Era of AI”. The full ASEFClassNet16 School Collaboration programme is hybrid and 7-month long (June-December 2023). The project provides professional capacity building opportunities for teachers, trainee teachers, and school leaders at the secondary education level across Asian and European countries.

The primary aim of the project is to conduct various capacity, dialogue, and partnership building activities that result in equipping participants with basic awareness, competencies, and strategies on AI&Ed and AIED that contribute to the digital transformation of teaching and learning at the secondary education level. It also aims to enable participants to engage and empower students to leverage on AI to improve their learning experiences through spin-off activities.
