The 8th edition of the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival will officially open on 23 April 2026 in Hong Kong SAR, China, with the world premiere of The Liar – 偽人, a compelling theatre production that explores the nuanced boundary between perception and reality through a minimalist yet immersive staging.
The Curtain Raiser programme is presented in collaboration with Tai Kwun Arts Centre as part of its annual performing arts platform, SPOTLIGHT. This partnership reflects AECFest’s continued commitment to fostering meaningful collaborations with artists and cultural institutions across Asia and Europe, and to supporting the creation of new, internationally engaged works.
Internationally acclaimed across European and American theatre contexts, Danish director Tue Biering marks his Asian stage debut with The Liar – 偽人. The work is co-created with Hong Kong-based actor Chan Tai Yin as a long-developed solo performance, specially commissioned by Tai Kwun Arts Centre.
The Liar – 偽人 will be presented in two language versions: the English version from 23 to 24 April 2026, followed by the Cantonese version from 25 to 26 April 2026.
