On 12 November 2025, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH), National University of Singapore (NUS), jointly organised an evening panel discussion on Climate Change and Public Health – the Environment’s Impact on Infectious Diseases in Singapore. The event report is now available.
Marking ASEF Public Health Network’s first engagement on the climate and health nexus, the session brought together experts from across Asia and Europe to examine how environmental changes are influencing the burden and distribution of infectious diseases — and what this means for public health policy and preparedness.
The evening opened with remarks from Ambassador Beata Stoczyńska, Executive Director of ASEF; Prof. Alex Cook, Vice Dean (Global Health) at SSHSPH; and Mr Hotta Toru, Minister, Embassy of Japan in Singapore. An expert panel followed, featuring Prof. Fredolin Tangang (Universiti Brunei Darussalam), Ms Sasha Mosky (European Environment Agency), Dr Chang Chia-Chen (National Environmental Agency & NUS), and Dr Thilaka Chinnayah (WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific), moderated by Associate Professor Yann Boucher (NUS SSHSPH).
Discussions covered regional differences in climate-driven disease risks, surveillance and early warning systems, innovative vector control approaches, community engagement, and the importance of cross-country collaboration and One Health frameworks.
