The ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026 (ASEFYLS2026) invites motivated students and young professionals to join the us for the ‘Anticipatory Leadership Webinar Series’ as part of the online Training — an immersive online experience, free and open to the public from 16 June–21 July 2026.
‘Anticipatory Leadership’ is the capacity and habit of using the future to inform the present by analysing trends, exploring a range of future scenarios, and using those insights to question assumptions, adjust leadership style, and take collaborative, adaptive action, that move systems toward more equitable and sustainable futures.
Through a series of expert-led webinars and interactive dialogues, participants explored key aspects of Anticipatory Leadership for a Human-Centred Future. They will explore foundational approaches to leadership, learn about futures thinking strategies, and learn how they can apply these tools in their own roles and communities to lead in uncertain times.
The sessions will take place every Tuesday for 6 weeks between 16:00-17:30 SGT / 10:00-11:30 CEST and will explore the following themes:

WEBINAR 1 | TUESDAY, 16 JUNE 2026 | Anticipatory Leadership Mindset
By the end of this session, participants will understand the foundational concepts of different types of leaderships and skills of foresight practice. The session will explore how anticipatory leadership enables individuals and organisations to navigate uncertainty by using futures thinking, systemic perspectives and strategic foresight to shape preferred futures rather than merely react to change.

Mr Lasse JONASSON
Chief Foresight Officer, Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies
Mr Lasse Jonasson is a senior futurist and the Chief Foresight Officer at the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS). Lasse is primarily engaged in advisory of organisations within long term strategic transitions through scenario planning and CIFS concept around Anticipatory Leadership. His competencies lie in anticipating changes and driving forces within industries and industry players, analysing new business models, and driving a transformational change at leadership level to equip leaders to future conditions.
Lasse is primarily engaged with connecting the discipline of strategic foresight with vision, strategy and daily execution. He has previously worked as an executive in the financial industry with strategic, operational and financial Risk Management, and with the application of technology in the financial industry. He has extensive knowledge with providing high-quality information for strategic decision-making from ATP, Credit Agricole and NETS. Lasse has a master’s degree in business economics.

Dr Lizan E PERANTE-CALINA
Senior Vice President and Dean of the Graduate School of Public Management, Development Academy of the Philippines and President of Philippines Futures Thinking Society
Dr Lizan E. Perante-Calina is Dean of the Graduate School of Public and Development Management (GSPDM) at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), where she has pioneered efforts to institutionalise futures thinking in governance and public sector capacity building. She spearheaded the country’s first credit-bearing Certificate Course on Foresight and Futures Thinking and is developing a Master’s in Public Management major in Futures Studies. Under her leadership, GSPDM has expanded to over 10 Master’s programs and 22 certificate courses, benefiting more than 3,000 students nationwide. She is also Founder and President of the Philippine Futures Thinking Society (PhilFutures), securing government support for foresight initiatives aligned with the SDGs. Recognised with the DILG NextGen Capacity Development Accelerator Award, she has contributed to UN CEPA and other global platforms, authored scholarly works, and taught internationally, advancing Philippine leadership in foresight and governance.

Dr Marianne SCHOERLING
Lead, Anticipation Experience, Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA)
Dr Marianne T. Schörling is a sociologist working at the intersection of emerging science, governance, and international cooperation. Her work focuses on how societies can better anticipate and govern scientific and technological change. At the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA), she develops governance tools, learning experiences, and international capacity-building initiatives that help decision-makers engage with emerging science and technology futures. Her expertise spans anticipatory governance, science diplomacy, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Marianne serves as Strategic Advisor to the CERN-hosted Open Quantum Institute (OQI), where she established a global educational consortium, and as a Board Member of Geneva Macro Labs, a Geneva-based innovation think tank. Over the course of her career, she has worked across consulting, academia, civil society, and international organizations, building partnerships and initiatives with governments, universities, industry, foundations, and multilateral organizations across Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America, and the Middle East.

The session explored how systems thinking and causal loops can help participants understand how different systems operate, how challenges are created, and how to shift systems toward preferred futures in Asia and Europe through the exploration of regional case studies.

Dr Jared POON
Principal Consultant, Counterfictional
Dr Jared Poon is the founder of Counter-Fictional, helping organizations reframe internal and external narratives to build healthier, more resilient futures. Operating at the intersection of philosophy, strategic foresight, and creative narrative design, he specializes in translating complex behavioral frameworks into actionable strategy.
Previously, Jared spent years in Singapore’s public service focusing on strategic foresight, and stakeholder engagement. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from UC Davis, where his research in metaethics and biology defended human morality within an evolutionary framework. He is also a published author of the urban fantasy series The DEUS Files.
He has a special interest in metaphors, collaborative storytelling games, and cats.

Dr. Ebinezer FLORANO
Full Professor, University of the Philippines
Dr. Ebinezer Florano has Ph.D. Public Administration from International Christian University, Japan and M.A. International Relations from International University of Japan. He obtained his Master of Public Administration and B.A. Public Administration (cum laude) in University of the Philippines. He is a fulltime Professor at NCPAG. Dr. Florano was Director of the Center for Policy and Executive Development of UP-NCPAG from 2013 to 2019. He has lectured in many training programs related to policy analysis, and project development and management to officials and staff of almost all government agencies and local government units. He has published papers mainly about environmental governance as to climate change adaptation/disaster risk reduction. He has presented papers at various international conferences in 20 countries. He has published in international journals and books which made him win several professorial/faculty grants and international publication awards. He is a consistent recipient of the One UP Professorial Chair Award in Public Administration (Environmental Governance) for Outstanding Teaching and Public Service since 2016. He is a Regular Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines. In addition, he is a member of international and local academic and professional organizations. He was a research fellow of the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs based at the National University of Kaohsiung in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in early 2022. In December 2023, he won the prestigious “Akira Nakamura Best Paper Award” at the International Conference of the Asian Association for Public Administration in Tokyo, Japan.

Mr Viktor JÓSA
Associate Expert on Climate Policy & Carbon Markets, Proteus Foundation
Mr Viktor Jósa brings a background that bridges American liberal arts education, Western European academic training and research, and hands-on innovation and entrepreneurship in Central Europe. He holds an American BSc degree in Political Science from McDaniel College and an MSc in Global Environmental Governance from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His academic path cultivated an interdisciplinary approach that shapes his work at the nexus of policy, education and applied climate solutions.
Viktor has worked in research and policy roles at the World Health Organization and has been actively engaged in the United Nations climate policy process for a decade. His contributions have focused on connecting policymaking with education, ensuring that youth engagement, scientific literacy and public understanding remain central pillars of international climate action. These experiences inform his current work as an educator and science communicator, where he develops and applies interactive, science-based learning tools that help diverse audiences understand climate risks, policy dynamics and pathways for action.
Today, Viktor combines global governance expertise with practical experience as a practitioner and entrepreneur in his home in Central Europe. He is committed to advancing climate literacy, fostering evidence-based decision making and strengthening the capacity of communities and institutions to respond to climate change and public health impacts.

This session introduced Futures Thinking and the core tools that are used such as horizon scanning and scenario planning. Through examples from Asia and Europe, participants gained better insights into the foundational grounding of Futures Thinking.

He is Head of presentations and key notes at the Institute. Carsten has an extensive experience as a presenter from doing more than 1,000 presentations globally during his professional life, spanning from global conferences to smaller groups in all types of organisations. The themes Carsten has been working with all relate to how global and local trends shape the future for organisations, companies, and societies. Carsten has done scenario processes in retail, HR, finance, business-to-business, governments and NGOs. His key priority is how to drive processes for clients in order for them to prepare for the future. These clients include organisations in global retail, governments, industrial conglomerates, cultural organisations, rock festivals, tourist organisations, the transport industry, IT and more. Ms Shiela R CASTILLO
Foresight and Engagement Director, United Edge
Ms Shiela R Castillo (she/her/hers) is an independent consultant for social development and foresight with 20 years of experience in the Philippines, Cambodia, and globally. Shiela is currently engaged with United Edge, a justice-based social enterprise, as Foresight and Engagement Director. An instructor at the Development Academy of the Philippines – Graduate School for Public Management (DAP-GSPM) Certificate Course on Foresight and Future Thinking, she is also an active member of the International Civil Society Center (ICSC) Scanning the Horizon Community and member of the Association of Professional Futurists (APF) since 2020. She is in her second year as the Animal Alliance Asia (AAA) Philippines Advisor. She also served on the TFSX Global Foresight Advisory Council from 2021 to 2025.
She is passionate about the environment, climate, and liberation for all.

By the end of this session, participants will understand the history of strategic foresight and planning, how regional contexts in Asia and Europe shape futures thinking, foresight practices, and anticipatory leadership—revealing how different circumstances influence what futures we imagine, how we prioritise signals and trends, and the actions we take to shape preferred outcomes. Through comparative case studies, the session will explore how trends (e.g. demographic shifts, tech adoption) appear more or less visible based on local knowledge systems, values, and power dynamics, and how these interpretations drive distinct planning approaches.

Ms Cheryl Chung is a strategic foresight practitioner, educator and advisor who helps organisations navigate uncertainty and prepare for long-term change. With more than twenty years of experience spanning government, academia and consulting, she works with senior leaders across Singapore and the region to explore emerging trends, challenge assumptions, develop future scenarios and design strategies for an increasingly complex world. As Founder and CEO of Tent Futures, Cheryl advises public institutions, philanthropic organisations, healthcare institutions, cultural institutions and businesses on the future implications of social, technological, economic and geopolitical change. Her work combines rigorous research with practical strategy, helping organisations move from insight to action. Cheryl is concurrently Executive Education Senior Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, where she designs and teaches programmes on futures thinking, strategic foresight and public policy. She is a recognised facilitator and speaker, known for making complex future challenges accessible to decision-makers and practitioners. Prior to founding Tent Futures, Cheryl was Senior Director (Insights and Strategy), at The Majurity Trust. She also served as Head of Singapore at Kantar Public, where she led research and advisory work for government and public sector clients. She’s held leadership roles at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, where she established and grew the School’s futures training and advisory practice. She began her career in the Singapore Government, serving across policy, strategy and foresight functions in agencies including the Centre for Strategic Futures, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Transport.

Mr Kushal SOHAL
Futures Literacy and Project Lead, School of International Futures
Mr Kushal Sohal believes imagination is a vehicle for resistance, hope, and agency. Codesigning action research projects worldwide, he has collaborated with collectives, movements, NGOs, universities and government bodies – developing transformative visions and actions to bring to life progressive futures. As he continues to learn and grow his practice, he seeks to centre values of creative expression, critical thinking, empathy, and plurality. Kushal is a Futures Literacy Designer and Project Lead in the Advisory and Services Practice at the School of International Futures (SOIF). He has been working with emerging leaders to address childhood sexual violence, codesigning participatory processes to reimagine democracy, and creating futures training courses. Prior to this, Kushal worked for three years with the UNESCO Futures Literacy and Foresight team, delivering futures projects with UN agencies and government ministries. Kushal is also a Next Generation Foresight Practitioner (NGFP Awards 2021); this fellowship supports his independent efforts to advance futures literacy capabilities with community groups and universities, with a focus on questions of social justice. He has been certified as a Human Systems Dynamics Practitioner by the Human Systems Dynamics Global Services. He holds a BA in History from University College London and a MSc in Modern South Asian Studies from the University of Oxford. He splits time between New Delhi and London.

Professor Jonathan Freeman is a specialist in creative arts and media research, combining academic and commercial expertise in media psychology. With over 25 years of externally funded research, he applies an interdisciplinary approach at the intersection of the Creative Industries, Psychology, Design, Education, and Computing. His work spans cultural and commercial sectors, including immersive media, games, live performance, social media, and smart environments. Focused on user experience, he explores impact and opportunities across the creative value chain to enhance service delivery and sustainability.

Ms Noemi PONZONI
Strategy, Futures of Creativity Institute, Goldsmiths University of London
Noemi Ponzoni is based at i2 media research, a research and cultural insights professional with 8+ years of experience in helping the creative sector build audience-minded, culturally intelligent strategies. Noemi worked both at Reddit and Penguin Random House, where she established herself as mixed-methods research lead interested in decoding shifts in media, technology, and culture – and how they interact with current and future audience mindsets.

Executive Director, Capacity and Leadership, Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA)
Dr Marga Gual Soler is Executive Director for Capacity and Leadership at GESDA and a pioneer in building science diplomacy as a field of research, policy, and education worldwide. She previously founded SciDipGLOBAL, an advisory, strategy, research, and training firm that helps governments, universities, international organizations, and scientific institutions strengthen the role of science in global policy. She serves as senior science diplomacy advisor to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research and is a member of the Scientific and Diplomatic Taskforce of the Square Kilometre Array Organisation. Marga previously served as senior project director at the AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy, where she developed a global education and training program in science diplomacy and helped rebuild scientific cooperation between the United States and Cuba after the 2015 diplomatic normalization. She has advised former EU Commissioner for Research & Innovation Carlos Moedas, contributed to the S4D4C Horizon 2020 project, and is a founding member of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance. She holds degrees in biology from the University of Barcelona, a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Queensland, and executive education certificates from Georgetown University and Harvard Kennedy School.

Mr Rodrigo Fernández García is an anthropologist with a deep interest in how societies can prepare for more sustainable and inclusive futures. Passionate about exploring new perspectives, he combines Systems Theory and interdisciplinary analysis to tackle complex challenges. He believes in bridging the complex knowledge of social theory with the operationalization of ideas in practical contexts. Connecting past and present to imagine transformative futures.
He has worked on social innovation and capacity building projects in Spain as a researcher and evaluator in the social, academic and private sectors. Besides, he directs and produces ethnographic documentaries that capture stories with social impact and transformation. Rodrigo has a Degree in Social Communication from Complutense University of Madrid, a Master in Anthropology from Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and a Master in International Development and Project Management, from UNIR University of La Rioja.

Dr. Jody Salas is an associate director in Accenture and previously the managing director of Razza Consulting Group, Inc. He has 20+ years of IT work experience in various industries including education, energy, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and public sector. He served as a Board of Director in Hewlett Packard Philippines Employees Credit Cooperative and a Board of Trustee in the Philippine Society for Talent Development.
As a life-long learner: Jody graduated Bachelor of Library and Information Science from the University of the Philippines, Master of Business Administration at the Ateneo De Manila University, and Doctor of Public Administration at the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG). He is currently pursuing Doctor of Business Administration on Emerging Technologies (GenAI) at the Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California USA.
Jody is a professor of practice at the Golden Gate University in San Francisco CA USA, University of the Philippines, and the University of Asia and the Pacific. This session invites practitioners to share their practices and experience in leading through anticipation, strategic foresight, and through futures thinking. Luke B TAY
Cornucopia FutureScapes
Luke B Tay leads Cornucopia, a Singapore-based global foresight and strategy practice focused on geoeconomic and climate resilience, sustainable development, and cross-sector collaboration. His work spans key domains including food-energy-water systems, health and nutrition, smart cities, and critical supply chains. Through keynotes, international workshops, learning journeys, and advisory engagements, he supports organisations in navigating complex PESTEL shifts and VUCA environments—delivering innovations, resilient strategies, and greater strategic optionality. A recognised thought leader in horizon scanning, scenario planning, and organisational future-readiness, Luke has contributed to publications on global food and water security, geopolitics, carbon markets, and sustainability, and advises on cross-border partnerships and investments across ASEAN and the Global South.
Luke is a board member of the Association of Professional Futurists and is active in several global and regional networks. Prior to founding Cornucopia, he spent two decades in leadership roles within the Singapore public service across agrifood and transport, covering policy, strategy, foresight, infrastructure, and governance. He has also contributed extensively to community and civic initiatives, and was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 2023. A historian and political scientist by training, Luke was an Economic Development Board scholar and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania.

Rushdi Abdul Rahim
President & Chief Executive Officer, the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT)
Rushdi Abdul Rahim is President & Chief Executive Officer at the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), a policy think tank under the Prime Minister’s Department, and Director of myForesight®, the Malaysian Foresight Institute. He leads national foresight, trend, and horizon scanning initiatives, working with public and private sector organisations to explore emerging disruptions and their long-term implications. His work focuses on strengthening strategic anticipation and enabling institutions to better prepare for future challenges.
Rushdi has led major foresight projects shaping Malaysia’s national policies, including Youth Defined–Shape the Future, Future Rail 2030, the Future of Malaysian Public Service (with UNDP and JPA), and the Future of Work. He also played a key role in developing Malaysia’s Industry4WRD framework and the National Anti-Corruption Plan, and co-chaired the NSRC working committee on technology prioritisation for R&D. He has been recognised internationally as one of 25 featured futurists in Leading Thoughts: How to Use a Futurist.

Ms Tea DANILOV
Director, Foresight Centre at the Estonian Parliament
Tea Danilov is the Head of the Foresight Centre at the Estonian Parliament. She has built up the Centre since its establishment under the Foresight Act in 2016. Tea’s mission is to apply a balanced approach to foresight – open-minded and diverse to broaden horizons, while remaining grounded and connecting alternative futures to current realities. Previously, Tea worked at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and at Enterprise Estonia on topics related to entrepreneurship, exports, innovation, and the development of the EU internal market. She holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Tartu and an MEng degree in Digital Transformation Management from TalTech. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at TalTech, where her research focuses on the role of foresight in enhancing the legitimacy of policymaking.

Mr Kent Elmann R CADALIN
Learning Manager, Development Academy of the Philippines - Graduate School of Public Management
Kent Elmann Cadalin is Learning Manager at the Center for Futures Thinking and Emerging Technologies at the Development Academy of the Philippines – Graduate School of Public Management. He leads academic programmes, research, and partnerships that advance the institutionalisation of foresight and futures thinking in the Philippines, integrating design thinking, public data analytics, and AI governance. Previously, he served as Program Manager for Futures Policy Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships at the UP NCPAG Governance Futures Lab, where he worked as a foresight researcher, policy consultant, and trainer across workshops, conferences, and capacity-building initiatives.
Kent has supported national and local institutions as a consultant and technical advisor, contributing to policy reform, local economic development, and youth civic engagement through collaborations with organisations such as the Second Congressional Commission on Education, USAID Urban Connect, and The Asia Foundation. He is an active leader in youth and urban development, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs and as Partnerships Co-Head of the Young Urbanists of the Philippines. A Master of Public Administration candidate at the University of the Philippines Diliman, he ranked third nationwide in the 2020 Civil Service Examination and was named one of Southeast Asia’s Next Gen Leaders by NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Temasek Foundation.
