Bringing the Migrant Health Discourse into Policy

As Asia and Europe have become two of the largest regions for international migrants, developing effective policies pertaining to migrant health is of critical importance. Such policy development helps to maximise the potential of migration as well as to strengthen integration of migrants into receiving countries. Based on this idea and building on to the 1st Research Exchange Workshop in March 2012, ASEF organised the 2nd Research Exchange Workshop on ‘Bringing the Migrant Health Discourse into Policy’ on 28-29 November 2012 in Makati City, the Philippines. This Workshop Report elaborates on participants’ presentations on issues such as challenges and opportunities of migration and impact of migration policy on migrants’ access to healthcare. The report also documents discussion points on policy options for improving social inclusion of migrants, which can be of interest for policymakers and practitioners in the ASEM states.
