The AI Governance Working Group of the Asia-Europe for AI (AE4AI) Network reached a milestone as they presented highlights of their work to Members of the European Parliament (MEP) Mr Wouter Beke and Prof Dr Andrea Wechsler, as well as Mr Kai Zenner, Head of Office of MEP Mr Axel Voss last 23 September 2025.
The open letter titled “Call to Action on European Leadership in Global Agentic AI Governance Excellence” presents five areas of action for the MEPs’ consideration: building AI safety expertise, recognising the economic value of AI safety expertise, promoting and supporting global cooperation in this area, Europe’s potential to lead the market for safe and trustworthy AI, and positioning the continent as a global centre of excellence in governing AI systems. Presented with the open letter were the following:
- “White Paper for Universities on Navigating Artificial Intelligence Innovation Ecosystems in the area of AI Governance,” an output developed by the working group during ASEFInnoLab5 recommending bold strategies and actions for universities as they navigate the intersection of higher education, innovation, and AI.
- “AI Governance in Higher Education: A course design exploring regulatory, ethical and practical considerations,” a paper aimed at guiding educators in teaching AI governance.
Developed with the contributions of over 100 academics from 35 countries in a span of two years, this body of work provides effective guidance for university leaders, academics and educators, and policymakers in the field of AI Governance.
