The 4th ASEF Young Leaders Summit focuses on ‘Sustainable Development in a post-COVID-19 World’ and incorporates 3 spheres for youth leadership: 1) self-leadership (you), 2) team leadership (we) and 3) societal leadership (all). To demonstrate the youth’s role in driving Sustainable Development, the programme encourages participants to collaborate & volunteer on meaningful community projects with an Asia-Europe twist. Based on the four ASEFYLS4 focus areas (SDG3, SDG4, SDG8 and SDG13), participants are allocated to specific working groups and work on “Leadership in Action” activities. In total, the ASEFYLS4 facilitates 15 community projects, each led by 1 ASEFYLS4 Navigator and supported by up to 10 participants from different Asian & European countries.
The project ‘Teaching & Learning during COVID-19 – “What Do You Need?”‘ focuses on empathy-based quality education and students’, teachers’, and parents’ needs and well-being. It is based on the idea that in order to create a sustainable, equitable and inclusive education environment, all stakeholders within the education process need to be approached with empathy so that their real needs can be heard and addressed accordingly.
The project will work on 3 areas:
1) Research on teachers’ needs during & after the pandemic
2) Workshops for students, teachers & parents on self-care, holistic learning approaches & mental health
3) Individual counselling sessions for students, teachers & parents

The team are currently calling for teachers across ASEM to share their experiences and needs during the COVID-19 pandemic through a survey. The results will be available in the form of a report later this year.
