OVERVIEW
At this lecture, the EU’s Chris Patten addressed a large audience to pledge the European Union’s continued strong interest and engagement in the Southeast Asian region. He cited the economic support and advice that Europe was offering to East Asian nations and the opening of new European Commission offices in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur as signs of the EU’s commitment.
Patten was the last Governor of Hong Kong, from April 1992 till its handover to China in 1997. In 1998 he published “East And West,” a book on Asia and its relations with the rest of the world.
