The expert meeting on New Media Workers across Asia and Europe brought together 13 new media professionals from 10 ASEM countries for a dialogue on the status of the new media sector in both regions. The meeting was organised as part of a larger on-going research programme, the New Media Workers Research Platform, which studies the living and working conditions of new media workers in the Asia-Pacific and Europe.
During the four-day meeting, participants analysed work practices and transformations in web-based industries and took part in fieldwork research, roundtable discussions, public film screenings with open discussions, video interviews and debates. Participants also analysed current stereotypes in the two regions and sought to challenge the connection between culture and economy as well as explored the transformations of borders and regions.
As part of the overall research programme, a website — the Transit Labour project website — was developed to publish the interviews, blogs, and commentaries created by the participants.
