Focus On Asia-Europe Documentary Films

Culture Events

Project Period:
12 Apr 2001 - 28 Apr 2001

The Asia-Europe Documentary Film Festival was held as part of the 14th Singapore International Film Festival, in order to promote documentaries as a credible medium and to provide a platform for future co-operation between Asian and European documentary makers.

The festival featured films from Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Spain, UK and Vietnam.

In addition to film screenings, an Asia-Europe panel discussion on documentary filmmaking was organised. Titled “The Truth Is Still Out There,” the discussion provided a platform for Asian and European filmmakers to address some of the cultural barriers to documentary filmmaking, in terms of raising funds, attracting audiences, and finding suitable subjects to film.
